With warmer weather on the way, a few simple precautions can help you and your family stay well over the summer months.
Keep Hydrated
Drink water regularly throughout the day, particularly during hot spells, and more if you’re active outdoors. Young children and older adults are especially at risk of dehydration, so keep an eye on them during warm weather.
Take Care in the Sun
Use a high-factor sunscreen, seek shade during the hottest part of the day, and wear a hat where possible. Sunburn increases the risk of skin damage over time, so it’s worth taking seriously even on cloudy days.
Look After Your Medication
Some medications need to be stored below a certain temperature, and heat can also affect how your body responds to certain treatments. If you’re unsure whether this applies to you, ask your pharmacist or check with us.
When to Seek Help
Heat exhaustion can develop quickly. If you or someone you’re with becomes confused, stops sweating despite feeling hot, or their symptoms don’t improve after moving somewhere cool and drinking water, seek medical help promptly.
